Your wedding doesn’t need to cost the earth 🌳

Your wedding doesn’t need to cost the earth 🌳

Your wedding literally will impact the health of the planet in one way and many others, like most things it’s not 100% avoidable. But, the good news is there are ways to manage the impact. one is making sustainable choices and the other is offsetting.

Would you consider Off setting your big day?

One way to do this is by investing back in to the planet and plant some trees. An average wedding will Cost 78 trees in carbon emissions.

In the UK, a person’s carbon footprint is around six tonnes per year – The Eco Experts. So taking in to account here a married couple and some pets your households carbon footprint is around 13-14ton.

🌍 The average U.K. wedding produces 14.4 ton of carbon dioxide

🌏 We use over our years carbon footprint in just one day for a wedding

🌎 Carbon absorption capacity can vary tree to tree year to year, but it’s generally considered to be 1 ton of CO2 per year for 6 mature (so 166kg per tree)

🌍 With the National Trust uk you can plant a tree for £5, so technically, to offset your big day you would need to spend just over £400. (NB NT isn’t a registered “offsetting system ” and they don’t claim to be, but in theory, of course, planting trees will contribute to reducing C02)

🤷🏻‍♀️ Would you consider this?

🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you feel it’s your responsibility to offset this impact?

🙋🏻‍♀️ How about adding a donation section to offsetting to your wedding gift list, or budget for this yourself in your wedding plans.

Thinking towards the future:

The average Life span in the uk is 80 years old

If the household has a carbon footprint of 13ton a year thats 1040 ton in a lifetime. This means the average human needs to plant around 78 trees a year or 6240 trees to Offset their lives footprint. That’s £390 a year or£32 per month to plant 78 trees a year.  Trees can take over 50 years to grow enough to capture useful amounts of carbon and release useful amounts of oxygen,  this is why it’s important to reduce your footprint as well as offsetting it.

You could start a tradition going forward in your new marital life to continue to keep Off Setting your foot print. If you can’t personally budget each month to cover your tree costs you could do something every year like a car-boot sale to get rid of old stuff you don’t use to raise money and cover the costs. Sell things on eBay or Vinted, OR ask for Birthday donations maybe.
