Seasonal Produce for your wedding Meals

Seasonal Produce for your wedding Meals

Now let me know if you agree or disagree, but food is one of the most important parts of a wedding right? The guests need feeding, we feed some of them a couple of meals in-fact,  plus snacks (canapés, cake, grazing boards, sweet carts, dessert tables, crisp walls if your lucky)

Sitting down to share your first meal as a married couple with your loved ones is poignant.

Background:

The Wedding Breakfast – Why is it called a Breakfast when we have it for lunch/dinner or tea (depending where you are from in the country, but that’s a debate for another day)? Because previously, the wedding service was usually a Eucharistic Mass, so the newlyweds would have been fasting before the wedding in order to be eligible to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion. Thus…… it’s their first meal after breaking the fast so it’s called a Breakfast. The Wedding Reception is post Wedding Breakfast and is the dinner/tea/supper, drinks and dancing part of the day.

What are you eating?

Using seasonal and local food means that what we eat is fresher, it has more nutrients and has traveled just a few miles from farm to plate. Meats and seafood are farmed more ethically too.

Fruit and vegetables start losing their nutrients the moment they are picked so it’s best to eat them quick.

Head to local farmers markets, talk to your chef or venue about where they get their produce.

Benefits of seasonal food

Seasonal vegetables are grown in their natural state so no need for chemical enhancements.

Seasonal food is cheaper and abundant because of supply and demand

As mentioned above, using seasonal and local food requires less travel and distribution so a lower impact of CO2 emissions, plus supporting local is also a huge benefit to your local economy.

Here are some seasonal foods and recipes to consider month by month
