Photo shoot at Athelhampton House

Hello! So what do you do when you have some beautiful dresses in-store but just having them in the shop window is not doing them the justice they deserve? You go and find a beautiful Grade 1 listed 15th century stately home called Athelhampton House near Puddletown (oh my God so quaint, it’s straight out of a Beatrix Potter book) in rural Dorset and kindly ask them if you can disrupt their day and take lots of photos in the house and gorgeous grounds. We were very lucky that Laura and the team at Athelhampton House were so accommodating and allowed us to spend a gloriously sunny July day doing just that. We love to work with other local wedding suppliers and this time we had the hair and make-up expertise of Kirsten Sare, stunning floristry from the lovely ladies Dawn and Rachel at Coombe Blooms. Our stylist on the day was Hayley Smart and our photographer was Dawn Potter a Dorset based snapper with an absolutely beautiful portfolio. Obviously the most important person on the day was our gorgeous model Katie who was brilliant all day even when we asked her to go above and beyond the call of duty – more on that later. We couldn’t wait for this shoot, first of all because of the location, but secondly the fantastic Press teams at Irregular Choice shoes and Glitzy Secrets had arranged for us to be able to use some of their amazing items in the shoot. Irregular Choice had sent us over four pairs of shoes that were so amazing I sat and stared at them...

Something Old, Something New……and other traditions.

Hi Everyone. Brr! I don’t know about you but I am not built for this weather. It’s far too cold! I’m going to try very hard not to spill my hot chocolate all over my laptop whilst writing this week’s blog. A daily hot chocolate in the winter is a tradition of mine and that segues neatly into my topic…. traditions. Even now in the 21st century, there are certain things we do in our lives that have been around for years and will more than likely be here long after we’ve departed the earth. This is never truer in the case of weddings. There are so many little superstitions, rituals and traditions that you would have thought would have died out by now, but they are still going strong. I mean one of the main superstitions is the bride and groom spending the night apart, the night before the wedding. Even after the advent of co-habiting, in some cases already having children, this is one tradition that remains sacred. It’s more about being the symbolic gesture rather than the actual physical logistics. Spending your final evening alone, and then if you are the bride in the morning being surrounded by all the significant females in your life, before you take your Dad’s arm and he leads you to your groom to give you away. I know in these modern times people find the notion of ‘being given away’ at odds with feminism, but I don’t think it is about ownership or about being ‘passed on’. It is more a gesture of appreciation as opposed to the Roman tradition...

Style Guide – Wedding Dresses

Hello All, Wedding dresses that’s our game here at Bridal Reloved. Whether you want sleek and simple, a dramatic long train or a full on princess effect, we have something that suits everyone’s taste. However, what if you are not so well versed in the styles of dress available? You can get lost in a minefield of too much choice. Sometimes you can be adamant that a particular style isn’t for you and then end up walking down the aisle in that exact style. Some of our brides want to cover up and some want to show it off. Whatever you want to do, there is a shape and style out there for you. I thought this week I’d briefly take you through some of the styles that are available to give you a glance at guide. Now we have found over the years that people can get confused between similar styles i.e. Mermaid/Fishtail/ A-line/Ball gown. We are not the fashion police and hope this “guide” is useful. It’s meant to be exactly that, just a guide. There are some styles that may look the same, but it is the subtle variations that can make a dress look completely different, but at the end of the day there is no substitute for actually going into a store and trying on a few styles to learn what you love. The key thing is to keep an open mind and not rule anything out before you’ve even got your coat off. A Line A-line dresses are the ones that you are likely to have seen the most of. It’s a very...

Photoshoot at Walcot Hall Estate

Hello December! I can’t believe we are only 22 days away from Santa making his appearance down our chimneys. I don’t know about any of you, but I am not as organised as some of the other members of the Bridal Reloved team (I’m looking at you Kate!), I’ve still got tons of shopping to do as well as a massive list of Christmas baking. Eeek I am going to brave the crowds at the weekend – and I bet the most stressful part will be trying to find a parking space, this time of year places to park your car are as rare as hen’s teeth. Wish me luck! We have a couple of brides getting married over the festive period and it is easy to see why they have chosen December weddings. The whole country goes into ‘party mode’ from the 1st of December right the way through to the 31st, so it makes sense to throw the party of your life while everyone is in the mood, and let’s face it the food the drink options at this time of year are amazing! Although after a heavy December there is no love at all for the month-long collective hangover come January 1st! But we can still be in denial about that for another 28 days! We did a photoshoot earlier this year at a gorgeous venue that would make a fabulous location for a winter wonderland wedding. The venue in question is the Walcot Hall Estate in North Lincolnshire. It is owned by the lovely Cindy Marshall-Day and her husband Tony Lane-Roberts. They purchased Walcot Hall...
